Wurlitzer Restoration

The Bluegrass Chapter's project to restore the Kentucky Theatre's Wurlitzer Organ (Opus 562) is making great progress!

We have completed work on the cabinet shells with new secondaries installed and the toe boards with refurbished pallet valves installed. The rack boards have also been restored, and the console is complete (see image at right).

We are currently focusing on the two wind chests which will comprise the initial 8 rank configuration of the organ. These tasks involve the bottom boards which have been disassembled and cleaned. The old wiring has been removed and we are prepping the magnets to get new coils. We are very close to beginning installation of the new primary valves, new magnets and new wiring on the bottom boards. When the wind chests are completed, they will join the console, the regulators and the Uniflex relay in our climate controlled storage area as finished components of the organ.

We still have a great deal of work to do with the offset chests, the tremulants, the blower, wind lines, swell shades, percussion and the pipes themselves. You're invited to join us on Saturday mornings at our workshop as we continue the restoration of the organ! Working schedule announcements are posted on the Home page of this website.
